I had to cut off the tapes and stick them to box to make it work for my design.
Originally I considered sewing the tapes through holes in the plastic, but the plastic is quite thick and brittle in places so this could have caused it to snap or could have just been too difficult to do.
To solve this I decided to use super glue. There were other adhesives to choose from but the super glue claimed to bond plastics well and I remembered that the tapes were synthetic so it would be bonding plastic to plastic. I bought the super glue and glued the tapes on and then realised that the tapes weren't synthetic but were actually cotton, which meant that the glue turned brittle and broke away easily.
After retrying the process a lot of times and basically soaking the end of the tapes in glue, they solidified slightly and I think that the glue stuck a lot better to itself so the tapes seem to hold at the moment. The only problem is that they look really messy when the door is opened so I will have to try and neaten them before finishing the product.
I also had to cut a slot in the top for the money to go in using a scalpel. I measured the width of the hole just bigger than a 2 pound coin (the largest coin along with the 50p) and marked it on with a marker.
I then just cut the hole and made sure that it was big enough to fit all the coins.
I also stuck on rough copies of the parts that make up the front composition to make sure that everything was aligned properly and that everything was the right size. The instructions showing how to get the money out could do with being a few mm longer to match up with the chart, but other than that everything fits well in place and would look good when finalised.
In general, the whole thing is looking really good at the moment, and I am confident that it will make a good final product for the brief.
